Monique Burgess of Salisbury received the following award(s) at Mary Baldwin College's spring Honors Convocation, a ceremony to recognize student academic achievement: Charlotte Forten Grimke Award: an annual award presented to an African-American senior for distinguished achievement in scholarship, devoted service to the community in and beyond the Mary Baldwin campus and incomparable active support and affirmation of diversity in the sisterhood promoted by Mary Baldwin College; and Jane Addams Social Work Award: given to an outstanding student in the social work department

Mary Baldwin College (MBC) is a forward-looking master's level university offering a variety of coeducational programs at 11 Virginia locations and, at the same time, one of the nation's oldest women's colleges. It will begin offering doctoral degrees for the first time when its Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences opens in June 2014 on a new branch campus in Fishersville, VA.
