Queen Martin of Alexandria Initiated in National Leadership Honor Society at Mary Baldwin College

2013 Apr 15

Queen Martin of Alexandria has been initiated into the Laurel Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the national honor society in leadership at Mary Baldwin College. ODK recognizes and encourages leadership in five areas of college life: scholarship; social, service, or religious activities and campus government; athletics; journalism, speech, and the mass media; creative and performing arts.

Juniors and seniors students ranked in the top 35 percent of their class and excelling in at least two of the above five categories are encouraged to apply. One member of the faculty, staff, or administration and one alumna/us may be elected each year as well. The Laurel Circle, installed at MBC in 1976, was the first circle of ODK to be established at a women's college.

Founded in 1842, Mary Baldwin College is a diverse institution that transforms lives through personalized education, innovatively integrating liberal arts, experiential learning, civic engagement, and global citizenship. At the undergraduate level, the College for Women serves about 850 students on the historic main campus in downtown Staunton, Virginia, and the Adult Degree Program serves both men and women on campus and at regional centers throughout Virginia. A top-ranked master's level university, MBC also offers co-educational graduate programs in teacher education and Shakespeare and Performance. U.S. News & World Report named MBC a top-tier master's university in the South and Washington Monthly ranked the college No. 8 among all master's level universities in the country.
